Namoi groundwater model

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

This data set comprises all the parameters, inputs for the regional groundwater model built for the Namoi subregion.

The spreadsheet in the 0_parameters folder lists the values of all parameters that were used for completing 3500 runs of the model.

The input files/scripts within the 1_inputs folder provides all inputs required to generate different packages of MODFLOW used for the Namoi model.

The raw MODFLOW outputs and post-processed dmax, tmax and flux changes outputs from 1 run of the model is provided in the 2_outputs folder.

The slides in "NAM_MF_flowchart.pptx provides an overview of the use of these inputs/outputs and parameters in completing the predictive groundwater model runs for the Namoi subregion.

Purpose

This data set provides a complete set of inputs and a -ready-to-run copy of the groundwater model that that was used for quantifying groundwater impacts for the Namoi subregion. The complete assessment was based on the running the model 3500 times using many combinations of the parameters of the model.

Dataset History

The groundwater model was built from scratch. Various existing data sets were used in generating the model inputs. These are listed in the lineage. The purpose of these source data sets are:

Namoi NSW Office of Water groundwater licence BA purpose - was used to define the groundwater pumping rates used in the model

Namoi hydraulic conductivity measurements - was used to identify a depth-based functional relationship that was used in generating multiple realizations of K fields used for multiple model layers.

Namoi bore locations, depth to water for June 2012 - was used for generating the MODFLOW wel package input.

Namoi dryland diffuse groundwater recharge - was used for defining the diffuse recharge input of the model

Namoi Leapfrog geological model - was used to define the hydrostratigraphy and model layer elevations corresponding to the Gunnedah Basin in the model

Historical Mining Footprints DTIRIS NAM 20150914 - was used to identify areas corresponding to mine pits in the model and define corresponding boundary conditions

Namoi groundwater model alluvium extent - used to define model layers corresponding to alluvium
