Abstract
The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. This dataset was derived from multiple datasets. You can find a link to the parent datasets in the Lineage Field in this metadata statement. The History Field in this metadata statement describes how this dataset was derived.
This data represents surface water entitlements inlcuding volumes extracted in ML in the Gippsland PAE. The initial data provided for Surface Water entitlements in the Gippsland PAE was extremely coarse. Water sources from River Basins (in the absence of more spatially representative features such as licence locations) were used in order to assign data to a general location.
At the Gippsland Asset workshop in December, 2014, better Surface Water Entitlement data was requested and Southern Rural Water provided this data by entitlement location on the 18/12/2014.
Purpose
This dataset is an intermediate dataset to be included into a revised version of the Gippsland Asset database by ERIN
Dataset History
As the new Entitlement data from Southern Rural Water did not contain volumes but rather individual locations for each entitlement, data was joined by licence number to an internal Bureau of Meteorology national dataset enabling ML per year per licence to be assigned to location. This was done using ArcGIS software.
Note there17 features without matching licence with a volume.
All data classified as "Water Access Right" as not broken down into the following codes of use:
CODE DEFINITION
WSUP Water supply
IRAG Water supply for irrigated agriculture
STOK Water supply for livestock
DRNK Potable water supply i.e. drinking water
HUSE Water supply for household needs e.g. washing, toilet
MNAS Water supply for mining activities
INDS Water supply for manufacturing and industry
INST Water supply for institution
COMS Water supply for commercial activities i.e. a service business that does not fabricate a product
RECS Water supply for recreation and cultural activities
EXPR Exploration or research
MINE Mining i.e. extraction of minerals or energy resources
RECN Recreational purposes
MON Monitoring of groundwater conditions
DRNG Drainage of groundwater principally to lower watertable or remove deleterious groundwater
CULT Feature of natural or cultural significance
UNK Unknown i.e. purpose of groundwater feature is unknown
In order to ensure only volumes and locations that were inside the Gippsland PAE were counted the the GIS location layer was clipped to the Gippsland PAE.
