BA SYD GLO - AGL Avon Wards River alluvium extent v1

Abstract

This dataset was supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and is presented here as originally supplied. Metadata was not provided and has been compiled by the Bioregional Assessment Programme based on the known details at the time of acquisition.

The data set was created by Becky Rollins (Hydrogeologist) at Parson Brinckerhoff and supplied under licence by AGL. It contains a shapefile of the Alluvium boundary as remapped by Parsons Brinckerhoff. The data are required for the groundwater assessment of the Gloucester basin.

Dataset History

The data set was created by Becky Rollins (Hydrogeologist) at Parson Brinckerhoff and supplied under licence by AGL.

The following data sources were used when developing an updated alluvium boundary for the Avon River and Wards River in the Gloucester Basin:

 Geological mapping (Roberts et al, 1991)

 Aerial photography

 Slope analysis, based on the 1-sec SRTM DEM-S (Geoscience Australia, 2013)

 Geological logs - exploration logs (AGL, 2013), monitoring bore logs (Parsons Brinckerhoff, 2012)

 NSW Office of Water Registered Bores (NOW, 2013)

 TEM Survey, Stratford Coal Project Hydrogeological Assessment (Heritage Computing, 2012)

The mapped alluvium extent (Roberts et al, 1991) associated with the Avon River is inaccurate in the vicinity of Dog Trap Creek and Avondale Creek. Geological logs from exploration bores and monitoring bores in the area show that alluvium is not present over some of the mapped area. The extent was updated based on these logs, and a TEM survey undertaken in the area (Heritage Computing, 2012). Slope analysis and aerial photography was used to update the Avon River and Wards River alluvium extent across the Gloucester Basin.

The typical thickness of alluvium encountered in the vicinity of the central AGL owned properties within the Stage 1 Gas Field Development Area (GFDA) is approximately 12m, and elsewhere it is not expected to exceed 15m.

Yours sincerely

Becky Rollins
