Abstract
This dataset was compiled by the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program from field data referenced within the dataset and/or metadata. The dataset contains laboratory analyses of chemistry and environmental tracers on surface water samples collected from a subset of perennial waterholes along Cooper Creek during two targeted field sampling campaigns. The processes undertaken to produce the dataset are described in the 'History' field of this metadata statement.

History
This dataset contains laboratory analyses of chemistry and environmental tracers on surface water samples collected from a subset of perennial waterholes along Cooper Creek during two targeted field sampling campaigns. Specific perennial waterholes targeted for water sampling were identified using a combination of spatial data (specifically the COO_Lakes_WH_WFS.shp dataset) to obtain accurate locations of perennial waterholes and cadastre data for both QLD and SA to identify the property associated with each waterhole. The sub-set of perennial waterholes sampled in this dataset were the waterholes that the GBA Program negotiated permission to access for sampling. Water samples were collected using a custom submersible electric pump and following strict sampling protocols using specialised sampling vessels depending on each sample type. The chemistry data includes general field and laboratory chemistry (i.e. pH, EC, alkalinity) as well as major and minor ions analysed using a combination of ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Environmental tracer data contained in this dataset includes 222Rn, 2H, 18O, 87Sr/86Sr, He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe which were analysed using a range of specialised analytical equipment at a variety of laboratories.
