NAM Assessment Units 20160908 v01

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple datasets. The source dataset is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

This Assessment Units dataset is a 1000 * 1000 m vector polygon ('vector grid') dataset that was extracted from the BA-wide vector-based box polygons generated over all the BA subregions and aligned to the kilometer marks to ensure grid cell edges fall exactly on the whole kilometer. The BA-wide assessment units dataset ensures unique identifiers for each assessment unit. This particular grid is intended for use in the NAM Subregion only and it covers the area that is 20 km greater than the Namoi analysis extent which is the combined Namoi Preliminary Assessment Extent (PAE) and the Namoi subregional boundary. It was derived to perfectly align with the interpolated groundwater model results produced by the BA Namoi groundwater model. The unique ID field for each vector polygon tile is stored in both the AUID (text) field and the au500_id (integer) field. The dataset is in Australia Albers (GDA94) (EPSG 3577).

Purpose

The purpose of the assessment units are to assist with the spatial and statistical analysis of the potential impact of coal resource development on assets and landscape classes in Namoi. They achieve this by enabling multi-scaled data to be used in the analysis while respecting the scale and associated uncertainties of the regional scale groundwater, surface water and receptor impact modelling. For Namoi, that scale is 1000 * 1000 m. The division of the data into assessment units also support the rapid querying, assembly and display of data in GIS and web-based interfaces.
