TIRTL Traffic Counts and Classification

Created 18/03/2026

The Infra-Red Traffic Logger (TIRTL) are devices produced by CEOS Pty Ltd which are located across the Victorian road network, and count, classify, and measure the speed of passing vehicles using a non-invasive light based technology.

The TIRTL Traffic Counts and Classification dataset aggregates speed and vehicle classification into 15 minute time bins. Each rows represents the detected vehicle volume for the given 15 minute period by Austroads vehicle class, speed bin, site, and heading.

The Site Key can be joined to the TIRTL Site table for site reference information.

DISCLAIMER: The data is considered to be of high accuracy, although it is important to note that mis-classifications can occur, especially during periods of high throughput. Additionally, the devices may experience outages or be decommissioned which results in a unique temporal range for each location.
