Height Anomaly Determination Using a Tile-Based LSC Approach: Program Development and Case Study

Height anomaly computation from gravity anomalies follows a remove-compute-restore approach, where global gravity and terrain effects are removed, the height anomaly is predicted, and these effects are restored to obtain the final model. This study presents a methodology for height anomaly determination across Australia, employing least squares collocation (LSC) for prediction.

The LSC process involves two main steps: first, generating a gravity anomaly grid for the region, and second, using these gridded anomalies to compute height anomaly heights. Gravity data sources in Australia include terrestrial datasets, satellite altimetry, and airborne gravimetry and gradiometry. This study focuses on LSC computations for New South Wales, integrating these diverse data types to produce a gridded height anomaly using the remove-compute-restore technique.

Our results highlight the effectiveness of LSC in height anomaly modeling, demonstrating its capability to merge multiple datasets into a precise and regionally tailored height anomaly solution.
