Australia Telescope Compact Array observations for project C3550 semester 2024APRS

BIGCAT; the Broadband Integrated Gpu Correlator for ATca is a major upgrade that will replace the entire digital backend of CSIRO's ATCA (Australia Telescope Compact Array) and double the available bandwidth from 4 to 8 GHz. This new backend will provide better continuum sensitivity, wider velocity coverage as well as much more flexibility for spectral line setups. This proposal is to commission BIGCAT to ensure that the available observing modes are tested and ready for ATCA users. This includes doing initial observations of BIGCAT verification fields with CABB to provide baseline observing tests that will then be repeated once BIGCAT is installed on the telescope. Commissioning of BIGCAT will be an ongoing process until all observing modes currently offered by CABB are available to the astronomical community.
