This record is an overview entry for biological data collected on Soela cruise SO 1/82. This cruise took place in the Tasman Sea, off the coasts of New South Wales and Tasmania during 12 January - 5 February 1982, under the leadership of Malcolm Dunning. Biological data collected on this cruise include samples of fish, squid and shark from 86 midwater and demersal trawls. Measurements of mantle length, weight and reproductive condition of four oceanic ommastrephid specimens (gonads and stomachs retained for later laboratory analysis). Stomach contents of sharks caught in bottom trawls. Hydrographic data and plankton samples from Bass Strait. Parasite data from approximately 70 ommastrephid and enoploteuthid species examined. Ommastrephes sample for preliminary electrophoretic study. A number of fish specimens for CSIRO's "Field Guide to Trawl Fishes of Temperate Waters".
