Created 02/03/2026

Updated 02/03/2026

The Sydney Water Aquatic Monitoring (SWAM) program was implemented from July 2023, replacing the Sewage Treatment System Impact Monitoring Program (STSIMP, 2008-2023) after a review in collaboration with the EPA. The SWAM program is designed to assess (i) Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) effluent quantity, quality and toxicity, (ii) receiving water impacts of WRRF discharges, and (iii) some recreational water quality monitoring (i.e. Beachwatch). Results are published in annual reports.
