Survey of phytochemical constituents and light absorbing pigments in mangrove species and mangal associates from northern Queensland and the Northern Territory

Created 23/06/2025

Updated 23/06/2025

Samples from 48 mangrove species and mangal associates from 24 different families from various areas of North Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, were screened for alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, triterpenes, tannins, UV absorbing compounds and photosynthetic pigments. The aim of this study was to carry out a preliminary survey of mangrove plant material to obtain an overall picture of the presence of chemical substances and UV-A (330-360nm) and UV-B (290-330nm) pigments (including carotenoids and flavonoids) in mangrove flora.
