This record is an overview entry for biological data collected on Southern Surveyor cruise SS 05/91. This cruise took place in the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Great Barrier Reef during 18 November - 5 December 1991, under the leadership of John Salini. Biological data collected on this cruise include the species composition, distribution and abundance of demersal fish from the study area. Fish samples for estimating population parameters. Some samples of juvenile Lutjanus malabaricus from shallow stations, but more from offshore deeper stations. Samples of benthic invertebrate fauna. 35 mm camera photography and video camera photography. Hydrological data. Sediment samples to determine the structure of the substrate and the composition of the infauna. Whole L. malabaricus and L. sebae for the Hobart genetics group. Whole L. malabaricus, L. sebae, L. choerorhynchus and several species of Monacanthidae for other research organisations. Various specimens for the Munro ichthyological collection in Hobart.
