This record is an overview entry for biological data collected on Southern Surveyor cruise SS 03/91. This cruise took place in the Great Australian Bight (transect south of Tasmania to Cape Leeuwin, WA) and off the west coast of Australia during 23 August - 10 September 1991, under the leadership of Don McKenzie and Bruce Phillips. Biological data collected on this cruise include puerulus and phyllosoma larvae samples from the continental shelf and slope in the vicinity of the Abrolhos Islands, in relation to the Leeuwin Current. Hydrographic sections were also carried out with the CTD across the Leeuwin Current. 45 XBTs were dropped on the transect from south of Tasmania to Cape Leeuwin at approximately 30 nm intervals and at each drop seawater samples were collected and frozen for subsequent analysis for phosphate, nitrate and silicate. Thirty salinity samples were collected and twelve samples were filtered for estimation of chloraphyll a.
