Securing WAs Marine Futures Project - Human Uses

Created 23/06/2025

Updated 23/06/2025

The Human Uses team set out to:

Examine patterns of human uses of the marine environment in and around the Marine Futures study locations, and how these uses have changed over time;

Review the major perceived drivers of change in human uses of the marine environment;

Identify users’ ecological knowledge and socially derived narratives about the health of the marine environment; and

Identify users’ perceptions of major issues regarding the sustainable use of the marine environment.

They did this by collating an extensive literature review on existing information then conducting semi-structured interviews with long-term users of the marine environment. For more information on the key findings, please see the final report: Human Use_Marine Futures. Study areas include Abrolhos Islands, Jurien Bay, Rottnest Island, Capes / Geographe Bay, Broke Inlet, Mt. Gardner, Point Ann, Middle Island.
