Created 25/06/2025

Updated 25/06/2025

This data set spatially depicts commercial fishing blocks for the Tasmanian Scalefish Fishery. Information is stored in selectable area polygons showing fishing block numbers. The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e., Latitude and Longitude). The Tasmanian Scalefish Fishery is a multi gear and multi species fishery and also includes the take of shark, octopus, calamari and other squid species. These fishing blocks were introduced to commercial fishing logbooks in 2007. Commercial fishers submit their catch and effort data to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) for management, research and stock assessment purposes. The fisheries research is conducted by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS).
