Rock geomechanics and petrophysical testing program in the Birrindudu Basin

Created 17/10/2025

Updated 17/10/2025

This release provides data from the new geomechanical and petrophysical testing on the Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic cores from six drill holes in the Birrindudu Basin. XCT scan was conducted for the internal textures and dry bulk density analysis on cores and core plugs. Sixteen (16) samples were subjected to unconfined compressive rock strength tests, and laboratory ultrasonic measurements at a single stress point to understand geomechanical rock properties. Thirty-two (32) samples were tested for grain density, gas porosity and permeability. These tests were performed at the CSIRO Geomechanics and Geophysics Laboratory in Perth during January to June 2025. The full results as provided by CSIRO to Geoscience Australia are provided as an attachment to the document.
