Risk assessment as a framework for management of aquifers - a literature review

Created 17/10/2025

Updated 17/10/2025

The initial step in a risk assessment is to identify the hazards and the assets they threaten. The next step is then to estimate the likelihood of releases of different quantities, the probability of transport to the site, the dose-response relationships, and the value of the asset threatened. Examples are given of how risk assessment can be used in the cost-benefit analysis of risk mitigation strategies for groundwater management
