Redcliffe Convict Heritage Trail

Created 25/06/2025

Updated 25/06/2025

In September 1824, upon orders from Governor Brisbane, a group of government officials, soldiers and convicts arrived at the Redcliffe Peninsula, charged with the task of building Moreton Bay’s first penal settlement. This was considered an interim site until they relocated to the Brisbane River, eight months later in May 1825. Today you can walk in their footsteps and hear stories about Redcliffe’s (and Queensland’s) first European encampment.  Moreton Bay Regional Council would like to thank the Redcliffe Historical Society for their support in designing the original trail. If you enjoy the walk and want to find out more, head to the Redcliffe Museum. It’s one of our stops—see the map for location.
