Introduction to Chaos Engineering

Created 17/10/2025

Tammy Butow visited Geoscience Australia to give us an introduction to chaos engineering! Tammy is Principal Site Reliability Engineer at Gremlin, former Senior SRE Manager at Dropbox, and co-founder of GirlGeekAcademy. For those who aren't familiar with chaos engineering, it's a new approach to testing that involves intentionally injecting failures into live systems. Netflix were the pioneers in this space; you might have heard of their Chaos Monkey system. This was an exciting opportunity to hear the real-world experiences of a chaos engineering expert. This talk is presented as part of the Distinguished Geoscience Australia Lecturer series on 5 February 2018
