Feeding rates and carbon and nitrogen partitioning in Crown-of-Thorns seastar larvae (Acanthaster cf. solaris) during development

Created 23/06/2025

Updated 23/06/2025

The aims of this study was to investigate the effects of food concentrations on the Filtration rate and Ingestion rate of Crown of Thorns larvae during different development stages. The study includes carbon and nitrogen data of larvae and their food to calculate carbon and nitrogen specific feeding rates and to investigate biochemical developmental changes in larvae. The two food concentrations were 1000 cells mL-1 and 3000 cells mL-1 of green algae, Dunaliella sp. This dataset consists of a data file from feeding experiments conducted during the 2019 and 2020 spawning season (Oct-Dec), including parameters: Filtration rate (volume of water cleared of particles per larva per unit of time)

Ingestion rate (the number of phytoplankton cells ingested per larva per unit of time)

Carbon per larvae

Nitrogen per larvae

Chlorophyll ugL
