Day–night seismic acquisition in Queensland generates three pre-competitive datasets from one layout

The Boodjamulla–Croydon seismic survey is an ~841 km deep-crustal imaging project jointly delivered by the Geological Survey of Queensland and Geoscience Australia under the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative. Three transects (25GA-BC1, 25GA-BC2, 25GA-BC3) were acquired using an innovative approach that ran in parallel: deep-crustal acquisition at night, imaging of near-surface structures during the day, and continuous passive recording. Applied for the first time in an Australian precompetitive seismic project, this method generated three distinct datasets from a single layout, improving imaging efficiency while minimising cost and ground disturbance. The survey is expected to refine crustal architecture across the Isa–Georgetown corridor, identify concealed Proterozoic depocentres and inform future assessments of mineral, energy, groundwater and storage potential. Raw data will be released in December 2025, with processed products scheduled for October 2026.
