Correlated Reconnaissance Soil Map of Tasmania - Beaconsfield-Georgetown

Digital representation of the revised draft Beaconsfield and Georgetown Soil Association Maps, originally surveyed by CSIRO in 1961. Original mapping scale was 1 inch to 1 mile (1:63 000), which was then reproduced at a smaller scale of 1:100 000 by CSIRO Division of Soils. The original data was prepared as a draft only. The revised maps were digitally reproduced by DPIWE at the smaller scale. The soil map covers much of the northern and eastern sections of the Tamar 1:100 000 topographic mapsheet area and a proportion of the south-western extent of the St Patricks 1:100 000 mapsheet area. The data is comprised of lines and polygons. Soil data attributes include soil mapping unit, unit code, unit description, and the Australian Soil Classification, Great Soil Group classification and soil profile class for the dominant soil. Additional soil information is displayed as annotation on both the Arcview version of the digital map and on the paper map. Attribute data for the soil profile description sample site locations displayed on the digital and non-digital maps are stored in the DPIWE Oracle database. These sites were collected by CSIRO and DPIWE for a range of projects. They are listed as a separate metadata entry.
