Build, drop, discover - the physics of making electricity! Investigate electromagnetic induction using everyday items

Created 17/10/2025

Updated 24/10/2025

This classroom activity guide sets out 2 simple demonstrations that can be used to explore electromagnetic induction (Faraday’s and Lenz’s laws) and how kinetic (movement) energy is transformed to electrical energy. One of the activities shows you how to build your own simple generator. These activities can be completed individually or together and have curriculum links to years 7-10 science, senior physics, and senior Earth and environmental science.
