Ashmore Reef BRUVS (TM) survey 2016, Western Australia (FinPrint)

Created 23/06/2025

Updated 23/06/2025

The Global FinPrint project will provide the first globally standard survey of shark diversity and abundance over the world's continental and insular shelves, with a key focus on coral reefs. This will be achieved by using Baited Remote Underwater Video Stations (BRUVS) to film sharks, which is a non-intrusive method of obtaining information on shark and reef fish communities. The plan is to deploy 50-100 BRUVs at reef (approximately 4 km2) at randomly generated locations (provided by the Global FinPrint Project or determined locally). BRUVS would be deployed using standard methodology and equipment.
