ACTGOV Mature Tree Loss in the ACT Urban Area 2015 - 2020

Created 23/06/2025

Updated 23/06/2025

This interactive dashboard contains a map and graphs to indicate the loss of mature trees in the urban area of the ACT, from 2015 to 2020.  The map uses LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data captured in 2015 and 2020 to plot the trajectory of mature tree loss over time. The associated graphs and diagrams indicate mature tree loss by suburb, land use and suburb age. These metrics can be used to assess the loss of mature trees across the landscape as required under the Loss of Mature Native Trees Action Plan 2021.Caveats for the LiDAR-derived data used in this dashboard:1. Please note that most (if not all) CHM-based tree delineation results should be thought of as "tree-approximate objects", and not actual trees.2. The variable window filter algorithm used in this project was optimised to delineate larger, native trees. As such, smaller (younger) trees and exotics such as Pinus radiata may be under-segmented.3. Although every effort was made to remove any erroneous polygons (such as street lights), there may still be errors present.
