Insights into Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic successions in northern Australia

Created 26/03/2026

Updated 26/03/2026

Northern Australia preserves several discrete geological regions defined as both basins and provinces that were deposited between the late Paleoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic. This study aims to provide a comparison of these different Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic successions, through the compilation and interpretation of existing available data and information. At the semi-continental scale, these insights can: 1) be used to assist with prospectivity studies, 2) assist with targeting future data acquisition, and 3) improve understanding of the tectonic processes of northern Australia in the late Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic.
