Updated 26/06/2025

The Department of Business and Innovation commissioned Wallis Consulting Group to undertake research and analysis to update existing data on the design sector and the current use of design by Victorian businesses. The objectives of the research were to: - describe Victoria's design sector and the use of design by SMEs; - provide a current picture of Victoria's design capabilities; and - measure the impact of design on the Victorian economy. Data was gathered through a combination of literature scan, stakeholder interviews and telephone surveys. The data used as the foundation of the main research report was derived from two telephone surveys targeting both design firms and non-design firms. Prior to analysis of the survey results, the data was weighted accordingly.
