Updated 25/06/2025

This data set spatially depicts the commercial fishing areas for the Danish seine sector of the Tasmanian Scalefish Fishery showing where Danish seine can and can't operate in State managed waters. The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e., Latitude and Longitude). The Tasmanian Scalefish Fishery is a multi gear and multi species fishery and also includes the take of shark, octopus, calamari and other squid species. The Danish seine fishery is a sector of this fishery. These area restrictions were introduced in 1999. Commercial fishers submit their catch and effort data to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) for management, research and stock assessment purposes. The fisheries research is conducted by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS).
