                <gco:CharacterString>Notes about the data:

This Indicator accounts for how the generalised quality of terrestrial habitats supporting biodiversity at each location and its connection with habitat at other locations within a neighbourhood enables biological movement such as foraging, dispersal and migration. It is used to account for the carrying capacity of a landscape to support its original complement of biodiversity and ecosystems. 

Only one reporting point (2013) is currently available for Spatial Resilience.  Further updates are planned as part of the Adaptation program. 

Ecosystem persistence = the percentage of original ecosystem diversity that is likely to persist into the future. Ecosystem diversity is lost due to declining ecological condition and ongoing habitat fragmentation. 

Ecological condition = an estimate of the quality of terrestrial habitat at each location based on its intactness and naturalness.  

Ecological carrying capacity = condition plus the additional effects that surrounding habitat loss and fragmentation have on the ability of species to move throughout the landscape.  

Spatial resilience = measures a landscape's capacity to support migration as species respond to climate change. It assesses how well species in their current locations are connected to places with suitable habitat under future climatic conditions. It also considers the rate of climate change and how past habitat loss and fragmentation impede migration for all species.
