The current runs along the continental shelf of the WA coastline between NW Cape and past Cape Naturaliste along the south coast. Oceanic processes in general, such as advection and water temperature, play an important role in recruitment in both benthic and pelagic fisheries. The Leeuwin Current strength is influenced by ENSO events. This project collates environmental data such as: * Fremantle sea-level data (index of Leeuwin current strength); * monthly sea surface temperature by 1 o x 1 o blocks (satellite-based); and * Bureau of Meteorology data such as wind strength and direction and rainfall.
