    dct:description "The Perth Basin has been successfully explored for the last few decades, with production of both gas and oil from several fields. However, the bulk of known hydrocarbon reserves have now been produced and new ideas are needed if the Perth Basin is to contribute to Australia's petroleum stock in the future.  Notwithstanding this long exploration history, petroleum systems in the Perth Basin are relatively poorly understand and even the accepted major Early Triassic Kockatea Shale source for oil has been questioned (Gorter, 2000). To improve our understanding, carbon isotopic and biomarker analyses of gases, condensates and oils have been undertaken to geochemically characterise the hydrocarbon families in the Perth Basin, and to correlate them with likely source rocks. Aspects of this study will be presented at the APPEA Conference in Hobart (April 2001) and continue to be investigated by AGSO's South-Southwest Project Group." ;
