Barrow Island is both a staging site and an important non-breeding site for migratory shorebirds. The highest abundances of shorebirds on Barrow Island (over two thirds of records for most species) are associated with the south-eastern and southern coasts of the island, from the existing Chevron camp to Bandicoot Bay. The Development area does not contain critical shorebird habitat.
