                <gco:CharacterString>## **Abstract** 

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from the Galilee - Alluvium and Cenozoic 1M surface Geology dataset. The source dataset is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.



This dataset displays areas within the Galilee subregion where groundwater recharge is affected by the Alluvium and Cenozoic surface geology. 



The dataset contains three shapefiles:

'Recharge_Cenozoic_Alluvium_Regions.shp' represents the area of the Galilee subregion where the Alluvium and Cenozoic surface geology is clay based and known to reduce the rate of recharge.

'GAL_Model_Alluvium_Cenozoic_Clip_ClayFeatures.shp' are Alluvium and Cenozoic geological features which fall within the 'Recharge_Cenozoic_Alluvium_Regions.shp' shapefile.

'GAL_Model_Alluvium_Cenozoic_Clip_BasaltFeatures.shp' are basalt based Alluvium and Cenozoic geological features within the Galilee subregion, which also affect the rate of groundwater recharge

## **Purpose** 

This dataset is to be used in the estimation of recharge rates for Galilee subregion hydrogeological features. Shapefiles within this dataset are used to mask recharge estimates for areas which are known to have their recharge rates affected by the overlying unconsolidated geology.

## **Dataset History** 

The shapefile 'Recharge_Cenozoic_Alluvium_Regions.shp' was created as a known region of the Galilee basin where unconsolidated surface geology (Alluvium and Cenozoic features) have a major effect on the rate of  groundwater recharge.



The shapefile 'GAL_Model_Alluvium_Cenozoic_Clip_ClayFeatures.shp' is a clip of the dataset Galilee - Alluvium and Cenozoic 1M surface Geology (GUID: 552d5323-bb28-43e9-b137-8dd2d81f7d3c) within the above shapefile region.



The shapefile 'GAL_Model_Alluvium_Cenozoic_Clip_BasaltFeatures.shp' is an extract of features from the dataset Galilee - Alluvium and Cenozoic 1M surface Geology (GUID: 552d5323-bb28-43e9-b137-8dd2d81f7d3c) which have a PLOTSYMBOL of Czb (unconsolidated basalt features)
