The widespread coverage of the seismic profiles now provides the opportunity to construct a map of major crustal boundaries across Australia. Starting with the locations of the crustal breaks identified in the seismic profiles, geological (e.g. outcrop mapping, drill hole, geochronology, isotope) and geophysical (e.g. gravity, aeromagnetic, magnetotelluric, passive seismic) data are used to map the crustal boundaries, in map view, away from the seismic profiles. For some of these boundaries, a high level of confidence can be placed on the location, whereas the location of other boundaries can only be considered to have medium or low confidence. In other areas, especially in regions covered by thick sedimentary successions, the locations of some crustal boundaries are essentially unconstrained. \nThe \u2018Major crustal boundaries of Australia\u2019 map shows the locations of inferred ancient plate boundaries, and will provide constraints on the three dimensional architecture of Australia. It allows a better understanding of how the Australian continent was constructed from the Mesoarchean through to the Phanerozoic, and how this evolution and these boundaries have controlled metallogenesis. It is best viewed as a dynamic dataset, which will need to be refined and updated as new information, such as new seismic reflection data, becomes available.\n", "num_resources": 1, "num_tags": 10, "organization": {"id": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "name": "geoscience-australia-data", "title": "Geoscience Australia Data", "type": "organization", "description": "Harvester for Geoscience Australia Data", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-23T12:29:08.024111", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au", "href": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw/dataset/major-crustal-boundaries-of-australia-2d-2024-edition", "title": "Geoscience Australia"}, "owner_org": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.0, -44.0], [154.0, -44.0], [154.0, -9.0], [112.0, -9.0], [112.0, -44.0]]]}", "spatial_coverage": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.0, -44.0], [154.0, -44.0], [154.0, -9.0], [112.0, -9.0], [112.0, -44.0]]]}", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2024-06-30 00:00:00", "temporal_coverage_to": "2026-06-30 00:00:00", "title": "Major Crustal Boundaries of Australia (2D) - 2024 Edition", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "beaec2fc-1cfc-4fe7-9c7d-c72932ffa7f3"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "00080910-39e7-408f-882c-e6e1eb6baadb"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "Geoscience Australia"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-11-18T22:04:13.676176", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "Major Crustal Boundaries WMS", "format": "WMS", "hash": "", "id": "ee2031c9-38ec-4edc-a4a4-b7dcce8b3026", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-11-18T22:04:13.635358", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Major Crustal Boundaries WMS", "package_id": "b375b84c-14ac-482b-9416-55dccead9ef4", "position": 0, "resource_locator_function": "", "resource_locator_protocol": "WWW:LINK-1.0-http--link", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "http://services.ga.gov.au/gis/services/MajorCrustalBoundaries/MapServer/WMSServer", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "ARF - Australia's Resources Framework", "id": "b406b2da-6bda-472f-9fc7-d0708ecf1ad6", "name": "ARF - Australia's Resources Framework", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "EFTF \u2013 Exploring for the Future", "id": "909d5c1c-3ed4-40c5-abcd-3fe164de1b08", "name": "EFTF \u2013 Exploring for the Future", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Major Crustal Boundaries", "id": "44fa31bc-9d36-425f-afea-a82701c17c47", "name": "Major Crustal Boundaries", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Published_External", "id": "5178775c-8044-4b7f-881f-5428a4e2d925", "name": "Published_External", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Seismology and seismic exploration", "id": "d3f01e32-d960-4cd0-a011-d1ed2909b335", "name": "Seismology and seismic exploration", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Structural geology and tectonics", "id": "f0ccea11-a1e2-4712-b8d3-2e147464ebfe", "name": "Structural geology and tectonics", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "crustal architecture", "id": "d244f6a7-a9ba-460b-b82f-24d1a425990a", "name": "crustal architecture", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "crustal evolution", "id": "eb867546-2724-4774-abfa-23504e14617a", "name": "crustal evolution", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "national dataset", "id": "8721570f-efa2-43fe-b349-8c84b54acff3", "name": "national dataset", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "seismic interpretation", "id": "93c4b51a-7751-435e-8144-4b2015ba9d39", "name": "seismic interpretation", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
