The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n\n\nPolygon shapefile of the South Sydney Basin subregion Prelimnary Assessment Extent (PAE). The Preliminary Assessment Extent (PAE) has been derived from the maximum extents of the input surface water PAE and a 20km buffer around the mine point locations for the South Sydney Basin subregion\n\n\n\nFor more information on developing PAEs see M02 Compiling water-dependent assets at http://www.bioregionalassessments.gov.au/submethodology.shtml\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThe final PAE is the result of a UNION of the following polygon areas.\n\n\n\nA:\n\n\n\nA 20km buffer around the mine point locations for\n\n\n\nAirly (underground)\n\nAngus Place -(underground)\n\nAppin (underground)\n\nClarence (underground)\n\nCullen Valley (underground)\n\nDendrobium (underground)\n\nInvincible (open cut)\n\nPine Dale (open cut)\n\nRussell Vale (underground)\n\nSpringvale (underground)\n\nTahmoor (underground)\n\nWest Cliffe (underground)\n\nWongawilli (underground)\n\n\n\nthat has been clipped to the Sydney Basin bioregion boundary.\n\n\n\nand;\n\n\n\nB: \n\n\n\nA 500m buffer around selected 1:250k Topo streamlines flowing out of the undergroud mine areas, they being\n\n\n\nAngus Place - (Wolgan River)\n\nAirly - (unnamed)\n\nCullen Valley (unnamed)\n\nSpringvale - (unnamed)\n\nClarence - (Wallangambe River)\n\nAppin/West Cliffe - (Georges River)\n\nDendrobium - (Cordeaux River)\n\nRussell Vale (Cataract River)\n\nTahmoor - (unnamed)\n\nWongawilli - (unnamed)\n\n\n\nThe 20km mine buffer takes in most of the buffered stream areas with the exception of the eastern most sections of the Wolgan and Warrangambe, thus resulting in the snakelike extrusions in the north eastern part of the PAE shapefile and another extending northwest from Cullen Valley beyond the bioregion boundary.\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2015) SSB Preliminary Assessment Extent v01. There are two separate programs of bioregional assessments.\r\n\r\nThe Bioregional Assessment Program (2012 - 2017) seeks to better understand the potential impacts of coal seam gas and large coal mining developments on water resources and water-related assets. It is one of a number of actions undertaken by the Australian Government to strengthen the science underpinning decision making on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments.\r\n\r\nThe Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program (2017 - 2021) assessed the potential impacts of shale and tight gas development on water and the environment.
