Importantly, it included specialists and representatives of agencies who may not have regarded themselves as important contributors of spatial data or information for disaster resilience, and it provided an opportunity to understand the potential to contribute to resilience outcomes.\nThe workshop commenced with a series of presentations on the meaning of spatial sciences, disaster resilience, disaster risk and impact, and how disaster preparedness and mitigation differs from response to a disaster. The role of spatial data and information as a tool for decision making was emphasised, and the variety of contributing spatial data themes was described.
