The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n\n\nArea of impact for the Pedirka sub basin with the Lake Eyre Basin Bioregional Area. This area is taken as surface water features (derived from GA's 250k stream and lake data) which are down stream, with direct connection to the sub basin.\n\n\n\nThis PAE does not include springs, bores or groundwater features.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nThe role of the PAE is to optimise research agency effort by focussing on those locations where a material causal link may occur between coal resource development and impacts on water dependent assets. The lists of assets collated by the Program are filtered for \"proximity\" such that only those assets that intersect with the PAE are considered further in the assessment process. Changes to the PAE such as through the identification of a different development pathway or an improved hydrological understanding may require the proximity of assets to be considered again. Should the assessment process identify a material connection between a water dependent asset outside the PAE and coal resource development impacts, the PAE would need to be amended.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThis dataset is compiled from Geoscience Australia 1:250,000 Rivers and Lakes which flow or drain downstream from the Pedirka Basin subregion.\n\n\n\nA 1km buffer has been applied to connecting streams to create the PAE polygon, all lakes which intersect the buffer polygon have been added to the PAE.\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2013) Pedirka Basin Surface Water Potential Assessment Extent v02. There are two separate programs of bioregional assessments.\r\n\r\nThe Bioregional Assessment Program (2012 - 2017) seeks to better understand the potential impacts of coal seam gas and large coal mining developments on water resources and water-related assets. It is one of a number of actions undertaken by the Australian Government to strengthen the science underpinning decision making on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments.\r\n\r\nThe Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program (2017 - 2021) assessed the potential impacts of shale and tight gas development on water and the environment.
