The regions include the West Coast, Gascoyne, Pilbara, Kimberley and South Coast. An integrated approach where all regions are surveyed on a regular basis (about once every five years) to monitor changes in recreational catch and fishing effort is in place. So far the regions that have been surveyed include the West Coast and Gascoyne regions. A creel survey of recreational fishing in the Pilbara region and Broome was conducted during 1999/2000. The final report is in draft form. The recreational catch of blue swimmer crabs in Cockburn Sound and Geographe Bay was estimated from a 12-month creel survey of recreational boat-based and shore-based fishers from September 2001 to August 2002. The final report for this project has now been completed. A 12-month survey of boat-based and shore-based fishing in South Coast estuaries commenced in December 2002, data collection ended in March 2004 and analyses are underway. The final report is due to be completed by December 2004.
