This includes a better understanding of the growth of the Australian crust, which can be mapped using granites, and related igneous rocks. This is particularly true when studies of these rocks are combined with isotopic tracers, such as samarium-neodymium (Sm-Nd), which can effectively 'see through' the granite and provide a way to map the middle to lower continental crust.
