The CMIP experimental design and protocol are defined by the World Climate Research Programme (https://www.wcrp-climate.org/about-wcrp/wcrp-overview). CMIP5 represents the fifth phase of the CMIP experimental continuance and represents an international collaboration to provide climate model output to aid in improving our understanding of past present and future climate. The replicated CMIP data provides more than 40 additional model outputs with variables provided from various institutions across the globe. This data, along with the Australian published data, provides a detailed framework for users to undertake multi-model and ensemble analysis to aid in model development and improving understanding of the climate sciences.
