Abstract / Description:
ESTATE: Protected Areas of Queensland. Warning note: (1) Estate is the master spatial layer and as such the derived product estateby must not be used in isolation. (2) Under the provisions of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, no entry is permitted to National Park (Scientific) reserves without a permit. On all other areas under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Forestry Act 1959, access may be controlled by regulating signs.
Purpose:
To show the Estate as managed by QPWS for protected areas under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (National Park of various types, Conservation Park, Resources Reserve), areas managed under the Forestry Act 1959 (Forest Reserve, State Forest and Timber Reserve). Please note, a permit is required for access into National Park Scientific.

Attribute information is consistent with the Nature Conservation (Protected Areas) Regulation 1994 and the Register of Forest Estate. Current official plan/plans were inspected as the authoritive reference for tenure identification.
Positional accuracy (external, absolute):
In a broad sense, positional accuracy matches the accuracy of the Queensland Digital Cadaster Database (DCDB). Amendments to DCDB polygon and attribute information are based on official gazetted plans. In some cases, where the DCDB has been recently positionally adjusted, this layer may not match. The authoritive document is the official plan/plans.

History:

Lineage statement:
The dataset was created in March 2002, as a foundation source to supply an accurate representation of National Parks, Forest Reserves and State Forests based on the Queensland Digital Cadastral DataBase (DCDB). Initial DCDB polygon extraction was 11 November 2001. A major spatial matching update was carried out on 5th October 2012. Gazettal changes and attribute corrections are applied as a continual update to the DCDB.This dataset replaces the pre-existing estates 2012_2 (Protected Areas).
