This data shows flights, passengers carried and seats operated by international scheduled airlines to/from Australia. Please note the following regarding passengers carried and seat utilisation figures calculated using this data: Passengers shown here for Australian Airlines, Qantas Airways, Emirates (for November 2011 onwards), China Airlines (for January 2014 onwards) and Philippine Airlines (for December 2015 onwards) will differ from uplift/discharge passenger numbers because of the inclusion of passengers carried via Australia (passengers transitting in Australia). This is done in order to show accurate seat utilisation figures. All other airlines report uplift/discharge passenger numbers only. Therefore, for other airlines operating via Australia, the seat utilisation factors calculated using this data reflect the total seats on the aircraft but only the Australian uplift/discharge portion of passengers on the aircraft. The true seat utilisation factors for airlines other than Australian Airlines, Qantas, Emirates (for November 2011 onwards) and China Airlines (for January 2014 onwards), that operate via Australia will most likely be higher than what is calculated using this data. For example, on Taipei-Sydney-Auckland services: Seats on the Taipei-Sydney sector are taken up by Taipei-Sydney and Taipei-Auckland passengers. However, when calculating seat factors, only the Taipei-Sydney passengers were used prior to January 2014. Similarly, seats on the Sydney-Auckland sector are taken up by Sydney-Auckland and Taipei-Auckland passengers. However, when calculating seat utilisation factors, only the Sydney-Auckland passengers were used prior to January 2014. Emirates Prior to November 2011, passengers carried via Australia (passengers transitting in Australia) were not included. For November 2011 to January 2013, in order to provide more accurate seat utilisation figures, operated seats were adjusted to show the seats available only for uplift/discharge traffic. Following discussions with Emirates, this adjustment has been reversed and passengers transitting in Australia have been included to show accurate seat utilisation figures for November 2011 and onwards. Service_Country - Country where the flight originates or terminates (determined by the flight number) Flights_In - Flights inbound to Australia Passengers_In - Passengers carried inbound to Australia Seats_In - Seats inbound to Australia Flights_Out - Flights outbound from Australia Passengers_Out - Passengers carried outbound from Australia Seats_Out - Seats outbound from Australia Trans-Tasman Code Share - Shared flights operated by Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways Ltd on the Trans-Tasman where the seats for each airline could not be split due to free sale. Air Vanuatu - Traffic carried under code share arrangements may not be included for July 2000 to June 2006. Our Airline & Solomon Airlines - For August 2008 to July 2009, due to code share arrangements, Nauru-Honiara-Brisbane services were shown under Our Airline while Honiara-Brisbane services were shown under Solomon Airlines. Passenger numbers reported by Solomon Airlines were apportioned. Vietnam Airlines - No data received for inbound operations to Sydney for August 2002 to May 2004, July 2004 to November 2004, January 2005 to March 2005 and May 2005. Data for Outbound operations have been received for July 2003 onwards. General Notes These figures were obtained from reports submitted by scheduled international carriers and are the best available at the time of publication. These statistics cover revenue traffic carried by the operators of scheduled regular public international air transport services only and do not include charter traffic. Flights with no revenue traffic uplifted from Australia or discharged in Australia are treated as positioning flights and are not included in this data collection. This mainly affects dedicated freighter flights where some flights outbound from Australia do not pick up freight in Australia. Revenue passenger definition: For July 2000 and onwards: All passengers paying any fare (frequent flyer redemption passengers are regarded as revenue passengers). In most cases, Revenue Passengers will now include all passengers excluding Free Of Charge passengers and positioning crew. To December 1999: The aggregate of all passengers paying 25% or more of the standard air fare (as defined by ICAO at the time). January 2000 to June 2000: Transition period. Country of Service classification by Qantas Airways: For July 2002 and onwards: based on the foreign country where same flight number services commence or cease - as per the standard definition. For example, Sydney-Denpasar-Singapore services would be classified as Country of Service = Singapore. Prior to July 2002: based on Qantas classification - this mainly affected Indonesia and Singapore Countries of Service. For example, Sydney-Denpasar-Singapore services were classified as Country of Service = Indonesia. Airline data - Reporting of code share services: Reporting of traffic split by airline code for code share arrangements was discontinued as of June 2000. For July 2000 and onwards, ALL traffic carried is reported under the operating airline regardless of code share arrangements.
