                <gco:CharacterString>## **Abstract** 

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. This dataset was derived from multiple datasets. You can find a link to the parent datasets in the Lineage Field in this metadata statement. The History Field in this metadata statement describes how this dataset was derived.


The dataset contains a spatial representation of surface water works and associated volume, and was derived from Surface Water locations from Southern Rural Water and entitlement volumes from DEPI provided via the Water Act Regs Category 6a to the Bureau of Meteorology.


Note: Southern Rural Water provided many locations for the same licence and therefore entitlement Volume was distributed across works by creating a count of the works and dividing volume by licence by works.

## **Dataset History** 

Locations of Surface Water works provided by Southern Rural Water in excel format were geolocated by using the Add "Make XY Event Layer" function in ArcGIS.  Data was assumed to be in GDA 94, zone as coordinate fields were called Easting and Northing and Zone = 55,

The "Select by location" function was used to select only points within the Gippsland PAE. Points outside the Gippsland PAE were removed.

Volume data by licence was joined to the geolocated Southern Rural Water output data to obtain volume per location.  This was done using the Licence field in each file.

Please note: since Entitlement volumes were provided by licence and there were many works by licence, volumes needed to be distributed across works otherwise entitlement volumes would be overestimated.

A Frequency count table was made of licences in ArcGIS and joined back to the geolocated table.

Records were selected where frequency &gt; 1 and the volume 'quantity' was divided by the count of licences.
