The study is required in order to \"determine the effects that various arrangements of major or future works for Warragamba Dam have on flooding in the valley\" (Revised Brief for the Preparation of an E.I.S., Water Boards August 1987). Stage 1 required a simplified model to be developed, calibrated and used to provide a measure of the relative effects on flooding of options for such works.\nThe model used is described in Section 2. Section 3 describes the calibration phase, in which three historical floods were used to adjust model parameters in order to match historical and modelled flood heights. The various options for Warragamba Dam flood protection works have an impact on the outflow hydrographs from the dam. Outflow hydrographs were determined for each option for five \"design\" floods and run through the calibrated hydraulic model. Peak flood heights were then tabulated and compared at three key locations In the valley. Section 4 describes the options while Section 5 discusses the modelling methods used to run these cases. The results are presented as a series of tables and graphs.", "num_resources": 0, "num_tags": 7, "organization": {"id": "09115071-2a29-4838-8261-9d4aade050ff", "name": "albury-city-council-datansw", "title": "Albury City Council", "type": "organization", "description": "The City of Albury, located in Wiradjuri country, sits at the centre of the Sydney-Melbourne-Adelaide triangle on the Murray River.\r\n\r\nAlbury's location on the banks of the Murray River and within its catchment areas means the city is vulnerable to flooding - anything from overflowing drains to inundation. \r\n\r\nAlburyCity is responsible for local land use planning within its Local Government Area including land on the floodplains of the drainage catchments and the Murray River. The NSW State Government\u2019s Flood Prone Land Policy provides a framework to ensure sustainable use of floodplain environments. Under the Policy, the management of flood liable land remains the responsibility of local government.\r\n\r\nThe NSW Government\u2019s \u201cFloodplain Development Manual: the management of flood liable land\u201d, April 2005 provides guidance to support the policy. The Manual details the actions required to assist Council\u2019s in meeting their obligations under the policy, which is to plan and manage flood prone land in accordance with its flood exposure. The undertaking of flood studies and the development of flood risk management plans for these areas is an important part of this process.\r\n", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-24T03:46:06.700508", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://data.nsw.gov.au/data/", "href": "https://data.nsw.gov.au/data/dataset/nsw-fdp-warragamba-flood-study-stage-1", "title": "DataNSW"}, "original_name": "nsw-fdp-warragamba-flood-study-stage-1", "owner_org": "09115071-2a29-4838-8261-9d4aade050ff", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "remote_last_updated": "2021-04-21 02:50:32.668846", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Point\",\"coordinates\": [147.0179,-32.1618]}", "spatial_coverage": "New South Wales (NSW81093)", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2021-03-11 01:31:16.459318", "temporal_coverage_to": "1988-04-01 00:00:00", "title": "Warragamba - Flood Study - Stage 1", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "cb2ed353-c47f-47e5-8d79-f54cd444598a"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "9ebac586-8e51-4904-9f6c-d9b79726659a"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "DataNSW"}], "tags": [{"display_name": "Broken Bay", "id": "00f3cd70-8a5f-45a1-afbf-da0795e76109", "name": "Broken Bay", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Hawkesbury River", "id": "7fb59891-6e56-4e39-96f8-3b14b128640b", "name": "Hawkesbury River", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Nepean River", "id": "492193a2-83d7-496c-befb-c74a7b899e73", "name": "Nepean River", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Penrith", "id": "15c49672-1fb4-4a65-bc9d-b54d98089d34", "name": "Penrith", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Richmond", "id": "3fab530a-b304-41c2-ad4a-9e657ad9ed29", "name": "Richmond", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Warragamba Dam", "id": "fa1a0945-1a97-432f-b823-13bcc60acba1", "name": "Warragamba Dam", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Windsor", "id": "82599a5d-bf5e-49ac-9041-97208dd9c6d9", "name": "Windsor", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "resources": [], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
