The Council is situated in the Barrington tops region and has a population of 8,500. The Shire consists predominantly of very rugged to hilly country which becomes less rugged from north to south. The major population centres within the Shire include:\r\n\u2022Dungog\r\n\u2022Gresford\r\n\u2022Paterson\r\n\u2022Vacy\r\n\u2022Martins Creek\r\n\u2022Clarence Town\r\n\r\n__Rivers__\r\n\r\nThe Shire has two principal rivers, the Williams in the east of the Shire and the Paterson in the west. Both are tributaries of the Hunter, and both traverse the Shire in a general north-west to south-east direction. The Williams and Paterson Rivers drain from the Barrington Plateau and contribute over 40% of the flow of the Hunter. Lostock Dam was constructed on the Paterson River in the 1970's to regulate flow and prevent lack of water in drought.\r\n\r\nhttp://www.dungog.nsw.gov.au/about-shire", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-24T03:40:09.302246", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://data.nsw.gov.au/data/", "href": "https://data.nsw.gov.au/data/dataset/nsw-fdp-dungog-flood-study-gis", "title": "DataNSW"}, "original_name": "nsw-fdp-dungog-flood-study-gis", "owner_org": "14c0b013-1eb5-4c3f-8624-f46bce1aaae6", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "remote_last_updated": "2025-12-17 02:13:57.979162", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Point\",\"coordinates\": [147.0179,-32.1618]}", "spatial_coverage": "New South Wales (NSW81093)", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2022-02-02 22:29:52.728147", "temporal_coverage_to": "2017-09-05 00:00:00", "title": "Dungog Flood Study - GIS", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": "", "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "37961bd3-9371-4925-9acc-8d226ab7503c"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "9ebac586-8e51-4904-9f6c-d9b79726659a"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "DataNSW"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-12-17T02:13:58.035904", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "format": "HTML", "hash": "", "id": "b9294b44-875d-4ba2-919e-896b8c989675", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-12-19T10:34:36.411844", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Dungog Flood Study - GIS", "package_id": "dae8f990-ec69-4abd-96f6-734d4a6838c1", "position": 0, "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "https://flooddata.ses.nsw.gov.au/dataset/2a4800fb-180d-4716-9665-c02514878b64/resource/dbbb2f29-34a4-471a-a047-0439eeab0d1d", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "Common Creek", "id": "4a67fe92-0917-404e-bd13-688eeaffc821", "name": "Common Creek", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Dungog", "id": "1d7957fa-b039-43fa-b1a1-3379cb55cfef", "name": "Dungog", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Melbee Estate", "id": "302669ca-79e0-4264-913f-c6c3d38ddafb", "name": "Melbee Estate", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Myall Creek", "id": "dacabc35-e22b-4ae8-9852-a62cf1767a20", "name": "Myall Creek", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Upper Hunter", "id": "e948f8ba-9329-462a-83e4-e2989f3b14d4", "name": "Upper Hunter", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Williams River", "id": "40d6a3e1-89b5-4a2a-b02d-5aef54315f6d", "name": "Williams River", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
