Recent enhancements to the earthquakes@GA web portal now allow users to view felt reports, submitted online \u2013 together with reports from other nearby respondents \u2013 using the new interactive mapping feature. Using an updated questionnaire based on the US Geological Survey\u2019s Did You Feel It? System, Geoscience Australia now calculate Community Internet Intensities (CIIs) to support near-real-time situational awareness applications. Part of the duty seismologists\u2019 situational awareness and decision support toolkit will be the production of real-time \u201cShakeMaps.\u201d ShakeMap is a system that provides near-real-time maps of shaking intensity following significant earthquakes. The software ingests online intensity observations and spatially distributed instrumental ground-motions in near-real-time. These data are then interpolated with theoretical predictions to provide a grid of ground shaking for different intensity measure types. Combining these predictions with CIIs provides a powerful tool for rapidly evaluating the likely impact of an earthquake. This paper describes the application of the new felt reporting system and explores its utility for near-real-time ShakeMaps and the provision of situational awareness for significant Australian earthquakes.", "num_resources": 1, "num_tags": 4, "organization": {"id": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "name": "geoscience-australia-data", "title": "Geoscience Australia Data", "type": "organization", "description": "Harvester for Geoscience Australia Data", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-23T12:29:08.024111", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au", "href": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw/dataset/real-time-community-internet-intensity-maps-and-shakemaps-for-australian-earthquakes", "title": "Geoscience Australia"}, "owner_org": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.0, -44.0], [154.0, -44.0], [154.0, -9.0], [112.0, -9.0], [112.0, -44.0]]]}", "spatial_coverage": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[112.0, -44.0], [154.0, -44.0], [154.0, -9.0], [112.0, -9.0], [112.0, -44.0]]]}", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2019-11-24 22:11:52", "title": "Real-Time Community Internet Intensity Maps and ShakeMaps for Australian Earthquakes", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "harvest_object_id", "value": "458ed778-6fbd-4bad-92d1-6011ea68800a"}, {"key": "harvest_source_id", "value": "00080910-39e7-408f-882c-e6e1eb6baadb"}, {"key": "harvest_source_title", "value": "Geoscience Australia"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2025-10-16T05:36:43.278067", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "Link to the paper (pdf)", "format": "PDF", "hash": "", "id": "42420ae2-3c17-4773-8b13-1831fadb4abc", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2025-10-16T05:36:43.267855", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Link to the paper (pdf)", "package_id": "8c579fed-15a5-45a4-8f56-980d39f72fc6", "position": 0, "resource_locator_function": "", "resource_locator_protocol": "WWW:LINK-1.0-http--link", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "https://aees.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/29-Trevor-Allen.pdf", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "EARTH SCIENCES", "id": "927af2a7-7457-45c2-bd55-10000fd09c14", "name": "EARTH SCIENCES", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Earthquake Engineering", "id": "2c291903-19dd-4903-add6-54cd41391cec", "name": "Earthquake Engineering", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Natural Hazards", "id": "5a00d6e7-b91b-4c8a-aba2-40aa3f4a606b", "name": "Natural Hazards", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Published_External", "id": "5178775c-8044-4b7f-881f-5428a4e2d925", "name": "Published_External", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}], "groups": [], "relationships_as_subject": [], "relationships_as_object": []}}
