Descriptive topics are grouped into the following themes: Location and administration; Demographics; Physical geography; Surface water; Geology; Hydrogeology; Groundwater; Groundwater management and use; Environment; Land use and industry types; and Scientific stimulus.\n\nThe Late Carboniferous to Late Triassic Tasmania Basin covers approximately 30,000 square kilometres of onshore Tasmania. The basin contains up to 1500 m of mostly flat-lying sedimentary rocks, and these are divided into two distinct lithostratigraphic units, the Lower and the Upper Parmeener Supergroup. The Lower Parmeener Supergroup comprises Late Carboniferous to Permian rocks that mainly formed in marine environments. The most common rock types in this unit are mudstone, siltstone and sandstone, with less common limestone, conglomerate, coal, oil shale and tillite. The Upper Parmeener Supergroup consists predominantly of non-marine rocks, typically formed in fluvial and lacustrine environments. Common rock types include sandstone, siltstone, mudstone and minor basalt layers. Post-deposition the rocks of the Parmeener Supergroup experienced several major geological events, including the widespread intrusion of tholeiitic dolerite magma during the Middle Jurassic.", "num_resources": 1, "num_tags": 16, "organization": {"id": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "name": "geoscience-australia-data", "title": "Geoscience Australia Data", "type": "organization", "description": "Harvester for Geoscience Australia Data", "image_url": "", "created": "2025-06-23T12:29:08.024111", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "original_harvest_source": {"site_url": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au", "href": "https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw/dataset/tasmania-basin-hydrogeological-inventory7", "title": "Geoscience Australia"}, "owner_org": "91f054ec-d0c3-4d42-a89a-5daa2c7a6818", "private": false, "promotion_level": "0", "spatial": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[145.8795, -43.643], [148.3091, -43.643], [148.3091, -41.0187], [145.8795, -41.0187], [145.8795, -43.643]]]}", "spatial_coverage": "{\"type\": \"Polygon\", \"coordinates\": [[[145.8795, -43.643], [148.3091, -43.643], [148.3091, -41.0187], [145.8795, -41.0187], [145.8795, -43.643]]]}", "state": "active", "temporal_coverage_from": "2019-04-08 01:55:29", "title": "Tasmania Basin hydrogeological inventory", "type": "dataset", "unpublished": false, "url": null, "version": null, "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2026-03-02T13:48:18.388087", "datastore_active": false, "datastore_contains_all_records_of_source_file": false, "description": "Download the report (pdf) [341 KB]", "format": "PDF", "hash": "", "id": "d23e7a31-544a-45ec-b904-4ba368d26571", "last_modified": null, "metadata_modified": "2026-03-02T13:48:18.370644", "mimetype": null, "mimetype_inner": null, "name": "Download the report (pdf) [341 KB]", "package_id": "83635a57-3acb-48a5-960e-8fbfb835c586", "position": 0, "resource_locator_function": "", "resource_locator_protocol": "WWW:LINK-1.0-http--link", "resource_type": null, "size": null, "state": "active", "url": "https://d28rz98at9flks.cloudfront.net/148751/148751_00_0.PDF", "url_type": null, "zip_extract": false}], "tags": [{"display_name": "Basin Analysis", "id": "4925707d-493c-4fb3-9727-ad3f4fc1fc9f", "name": "Basin Analysis", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "EARTH SCIENCES", "id": "927af2a7-7457-45c2-bd55-10000fd09c14", "name": "EARTH SCIENCES", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "ECOLOGY", "id": "7b188bc5-b8e8-41b3-a388-40f0f2ea485b", "name": "ECOLOGY", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES", "id": "0769b117-3ec9-4b5a-9d9f-f00338d4a2f9", "name": "ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Environmental Management", "id": "74f6a58c-11a6-41cf-bd4e-7b55b4ee6844", "name": "Environmental Management", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Exploring for the Future", "id": "e7ba852d-d492-4846-a138-b3b1f58c4e1b", "name": "Exploring for the Future", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "GEOLOGY", "id": "a6a2a1d6-6188-4c8a-b6b8-3e84dfa4a8c9", "name": "GEOLOGY", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Groundwater", "id": "0b1c69b9-3675-4c1e-aa46-9827e4832495", "name": "Groundwater", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Hydrogeology", "id": "f8a49018-6a25-4b22-b655-9a64177dd4d9", "name": "Hydrogeology", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Land Use and Environmental Planning", "id": "4496fb69-0bbd-4ffb-bc1a-caf39def1ad5", "name": "Land Use and Environmental Planning", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "National Groundwater Sytems", "id": "ee1178c3-ad50-4ac0-9765-cd3499d6a1aa", "name": "National Groundwater Sytems", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "National Hydrogeological Inventory", "id": "1be26895-ceec-4186-a451-cbc4733fc38e", "name": "National Hydrogeological Inventory", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE", "id": "9d4c07fd-caee-4f2d-ab4e-9e8b9750cb88", "name": "PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Published_External", "id": "5178775c-8044-4b7f-881f-5428a4e2d925", "name": "Published_External", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Sedimentology", "id": "a10ad02a-d31d-4a36-8bfd-53ec1c559e48", "name": "Sedimentology", "state": "active", "vocabulary_id": null}, {"display_name": "Stratigraphy (incl.
