They were thought to be extinct until their re-discovery in 1992. Between 2005 and 2010 there were 23 known populations of Pygmy Bluetongues in the Mid North. The project during this time aimed to survey and monitor 9 known populations of the lizard to develop a better understanding of their population processes.
