ABSTRACT
These points represent the 124 hydrologic indicator sites chosen to cover specified
environmental objectives and targets, environmental water requirements or
environmental demands. These sites are called hydrologic indicator sites. The hydrologic
indicator sites and flows described at those sites are intended to represent the broader
environmental flow needs of river valleys or reaches. The selection of sites and flows
described focus on those areas and issues with greatest sensitivity to the
environmentally sustainable level of take. Three hydrologic indicator sites were added
for the Northern Basin Review.

feature ID and name were provided to the NRI unit by the respective MDBA program area.
For HISID 123 to 125 attributes were derived from the gauge data. For HISID 123 to 125
no columns except site name and AWRC identifier were defined in source data, HISID,
MDBA Region, latitude and longitude were then added manually. Site name was updated
for HISID 63.

LINEAGE STATEMENT
This dataset was extracted from Murray-Darling Basin modelling nodes based on HIS
attribute number. This indicator sites was selected based on the available information
regarding the key environmental assets (KEA) and key ecosystem functions (KEF) to
establish environmental water requirements. The fundamental principle of this
approach is the reinstatements of the flow components to a level that fulfils the Basin
Plan objective of a healthy working Basin. The modelling nodes dataset itself is
sourced from the modelling done for the Sustainable Yields projects executed by
CSIRO and enhanced during 2010 – 2011 by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority in
close cooperation with the Basin States for the preparation of the Basin Plan.
Three hydrologic indicator sites were added for the Northern Basin Review for Culgoa
River at Weilmoringle, Narran River at Narran Park and Darling River at Wilcannia
using gauge locations. The previous record for Darling River at Wilcannia was
removed. Two hydrologic indicator sites were modified after checking.
